Laboratory of Growth Regulators of IEB AS CR

Laboratory of Growth Regulators was established in 1996 as a joint facility of the Faculty of Science, Palacký University and the Institute of Experimental Botany, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. In 2014, it became a part of the Centre of the region Haná for biotechnological and agricultural research. Researchers at the LGR deal mainly with cytokinins, but recently also with other groups of plant growth regulators. Research program of the laboratory is aimed primarily at small molecules that regulate the cell division cycle, proliferation and growth of both plant and animal cells. Namely cytokinins and cytokinin-derived purine inhibitors of cyclin-dependent kinases belong to the most intensively studied compounds.

He graduated from University of Agriculture in Brno where he also obtained his academic degrees. Since 1983, he has been working at the Institute of Experimental Botany, Academy of Sciences CR. In 1996 he became the Head of a joint Laboratory of Faculty of Science, Palacký University and Institute of Experimental Botany called Laboratory of Growth Regulators. He is focused on biological, medicinal and analytical chemistry of plant hormones. His research group has been involved in a number of international collaborative projects. Part of the laboratory is involved in the synthesis of new growth regulators with important biological and therapeutic potential. He is the author of more than 350 scientific papers and number of patents granted worldwide. He is also a member of a number of international societies, chairman of Medicinal and Biological Sciences of GA CR, a member of ERC panel, and administrator of more than 30 national and international projects.
